"A Good Deal is in the Eyes of the Customer..." - 3 Emotional Selling Tricks to Watch For

Car Salesmen are taught that "a good deal is in the eyes of the customer..."

What this means is all that matters is that you THINK you are getting a good deal.

Or even better... You FEEL like it.

This is what a good car salesman/dealership is very good at. They will make you feel like they are getting you the deal of a life time. Here are a couple of different ways salesmen will make you feel like you're getting a great deal... when you're really getting screwed.

1. "We're going to try and get you financed but can't make any promises..."

This is something a sales man or a sales manager will say to you as a customer if you either don't know your credit or your credit is somewhat "shakey." It's a way of making you feel like they are doing you a favor and you'd better make a decision right now when it's really something you could have gotten anyways.

2. Focus On What is Important to the Customer

That's what salesmen are taught in order to keep you from worrying about the other "pieces of the puzzle." If all you care about as a customer is the payment... Then that's all the salesmen is going to show you. Make sure you are getting the best deal you can on EVERYTHING that is important... If you don't know, that's what we are here for.

3. "It's me and you against the managers..."

A salesman might not necessarily say this... but a good one will make you feel it. Be sure to watch out for things like him standing or sitting next to you when the manager is talking, him mirroring your body language, or saying things that indicate he is trying to help you and pull a fast one on his managers. It's a bunch of B.S. He is LYING to you to make you feel good. Don't fall for it.
